Zhong Yanqun, standing deputy director of World Expo Shanghai 2010 Executive Committee
The organisers of World Expo 2010 Shanghai have set specific deadlines this year for tasks to do with preparation work for the event, according to the Mobilisation Conference for World Expo 2010 held today.
Zhong Yanqun, standing deputy director of World Expo Shanghai 2010 Executive Committee delivered a speech on achievements last year and the key works that have to be carried out in 2007.
WORK IN 2006
The organisers decided to emphasise the core concept of "harmony" in the China Pavilion and "Chinese wisdom in a city's development" as the pavilion's theme. The exhibition plans for the three theme pavilions were also completed.
The organisers successfully held the First Participants Meeting, attracting nearly 300 representatives from 127 countries to Shanghai.
Zhong said talks were held with more than 10 enterprises which were willing to build their own company pavilions at the Expo.
In 2006, all families to be relocated were safely moved to better neighbourhoods which cleared 50 percent of the Expo Site for construction. 370 delegations from more than 50 countries visited the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination last year, including delegations led by the Italian Premier and the Gabonese President, which showed the worldwide spread of World Expo Shanghai.
The organisers have recruited five global partners for World Expo 2010 -- China Telecom, China Mobile, the Bank of Communications, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and General Motors Corporation (GM).
PLANS FOR 2007
In 2007, the organisers have set a target of attracting a total of 170 countries and organisations to confirm their partipation in the event and to have signed contracts.
The bureau will be ready to host the second participants meeting to be held in November when the second edition of "the participants guide" will be released.
Nine regulations, especially made for the Expo Shanghai, will be handed to the Bureau of International Expositions before May 1.
The organisers have started planning on recruiting work for the company pavilions and the cities pavilions. The theme of the "Best Practices Region" will be "Sustainable Development and Ecological City".
Construction work at the Expo Site includes 28 projects, including finishing the relocation work by the end of this year, starting the construction of the pavilions and some 100 infrastructure facilities as well as supply projects. The land for the self-constructed pavilion will be handed to the participants in November.
The organisers will also establish 10 special plans for the pre-Expo operation project covering the administration of the Expo Site, ticketing, ID administration, security, traffic flow, security and customs and quarantine.
Global recruiting for partners and senior sponsorship will be completed this year. The organisers will also release some of the authorised Expo products including Expo coins and stamps. In the promotion plan, 10 activities will be carried out, including announcing the mascot of the Expo, the 1,000-day countdown, an Expo exhibition tour around China, a donation plan for the China Pavilion, launching the volunteers plan, the "Expo Rostrum" series of lectures, the official Expo forum and other international promotion plans. Zhong said the official website of World Expo 2010 Shanghai would become multi-language this year. The organisers will work to ensure the Expo is a completely modern high-tech event and have better insurance, human resourcse and legal services.

Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008.
